Geothermal heating systems use heat from the earth for heating and cooling. Their work is based on the fact that the earth's temperature is constant at certain depth through the year. For example, at a depth  of 50 meters, the temperature is about 15 degrees of Celsius. An integral part of this system is heating pump which extracts this heat from the ground and pumps it into the space which you intend to heat.
